Precision 1 Contact Lenses

Precision 1 contact lenses are manufactured by Alcon, they are made from a silicone hydrogel material called Verofilcon A, designed to be worn comfortably for up to 16 hours each day, they are single use daily disposables, must be replaced each day with no cleaning or storage required.  

In comparison to Dailies Total 1 lenses with water gradient technology that covers 100% of the lens surface with water, Precision 1 lenses use Alcon’s Smart Surface Technology creating a thin layer of moisture over 80% of the lens surface. While Dailies Total 1 are Alcon’s premium lenses, Precision 1 are considered to be the cost effective alternative.

Precision 1 contact lenses can be beneficial for wearers that experience dry eyes, as 51% water content in the core material plus the added moisture surface layer prevents the lens from drying out causing wearer discomfort. Rather the lens remains soft and flexible, mimicking the natural tear film reducing friction against the eyelids and eyes surface ensuring comfort for 16 hours.

Other features of Precision 1 contact lenses include high breathability with a Dk/t of 100, allowing oxygen to flow freely to the cornea to support healthy, white-looking eyes. By comparison, traditional hydrogel lenses average a Dk/t of 25–30. 

For added protection Precision 1 feature Class 1 UV Blocker providing one of the highest levels of UV protection available in a contact lens. This helps protect the cornea, natural lens, and retina from harmful UV rays associated with cataracts, pterygium, and macular degeneration. Sunglasses are still recommended to shield the entire eye area, but UV-blocking contact lenses also help reduce “bounce-back” glare reflected behind sunglasses.
